It was 27th November 2015 and the Sun was blazing directly into the eye. With a non-stop revving of the beasts engines roaring on the Highways of Bangalore-Pune road and sleepless journey, Not a single soul was tired or exhausted. The passion kept ClubSierra kicking in. The club was warmly welcome by it's beloved Pune members at the outskirts and we were escorted to the stay. All the hassles and the disturbances that we faced on the 26th night was forgotten by now.
ClubSierra team headed out to the TATA plant at Pimpri/Chinchwad, in a convoy of their beloved beasts. The TATA PLANT gates were thrown wide open with cameramen standing & witnessing the sight of a lifetime. Huge metal Beasts revving past the lens one after the other was yet another sight indeed. Officials of almost every division stood there welcoming their yesteryear proud product.
Once inside the drive-path of the TATA Plant, ClubSierra was welcomed by the Head of operations and the Co-ordinator of the PassionDrive. The hospitality was amazing. Without wasting any time, the club was directed to the conference hall for freshening up & refreshments. The local favourite, "Poha" was served with hot tea.
Post refreshments, The local media interacted with the club for a mini questionnaire.
Namma Bengalurean, Mr. Bhaskee was answering the web & print media while Punekar Mr. Anup Varadapande was handling the television. The club was then directed into the discussions hall where the Plant lead officer had to be requested out of an official meeting. He was very glad to welcome the club on board and was very evident in expressing his happiness to see their yesteryear customers.
ClubSierra was then taken on a plant visit in their inter-plant modified TATA wingers. Each section was heaven in its own class. The club was allowed to visit several production units and were given a live show to how the plant works. The TATA's follow a very strict rule when it comes to safety.
After the plant visit, ClubSierra members were finally taken to TATA&'s test field for a glimpse of how each product was tested for stability & reliability. The club was directed further to the canteen and the food too was lip smacking. The attraction here was that the lunch session was followed by a discussion of our passion with a like-minded veteran at the TATAs. Another officer, a passionate collector of classic vehicles and an ardent member of T-BHP was addressing the club and was helping them understand and maintain these classic beauties and beasts.
Post lunch, the club was driven back to the test-field and were given an opportunity to test-drive the two new TATA Storme variants. This was a privilege that no-one else in the country has ever been given till now. ClubSierra was the first one to have proudly received this privilege. Members of the club test drove the beasts on the test track (with permissions from the HOD of testing Dept.). Post test-drive, the club was driven to the conference hall for the actual discussions of the support for ClubSierra.
At discussions, the club was accompanied with 3 HODs of the Spare Parts Department who, in 2 days, took the initiative and enthusiasm to source out all possible locations, detailed parts list, possible locations to source and mix-match of other model parts. According to them, they were able to come to a figure of about 48% of available spares that can be sourced.
In the discussions, the club was also told that the model of service availability at select service points is still under discussions.
